Oak Park, 2024, Residential
Built in 1904 this Craftsman home set in one of Oak Park’s historic neighborhoods was tired and deteriorated. The front porch had structurally failed, and the original cladding was covered in heavy ‘oak leaf’ patterned stucco. Two rear additions created a choppy interior, and the home lived dark.
We replaced the existing porch with historic accuracy and replaced the two rear additions with a new 2-story rear addition to enlarge the kitchen and create a primary suite. We clad the home with new wood siding along with modified window configurations to create generously proportioned windows and doors that flood the interiors with daylight and reconnect the home to the beautiful rear garden.
Fresh-cut white oak floors, custom walnut cabinetry, and moments of deeply saturated wall colors ground the interior to its historic, richly-stained interior roots. Lighter painted cabinetry and white walls provide a refreshing counterpoint that honors the homes past while bringing a modern aesthetic fitting of today and the family.
